The SAHO Bargaining Committee met with the Saskatchewan Union of Nurses (SUN) on January 20, 21, 22 and 23, 2026.

During this round of negotiations, the parties continued substantive discussions focused on modernizing the collective agreement to reflect the current configuration of health services across Saskatchewan. Progress was made on language related to Multi-Site and Community positions, as well as Lay-Off and Re-Employment provisions. 

Agreement was also reached to update gender-related language and to modernize several wording provisions. In addition, the parties established a shared understanding of priorities for the next bargaining session, which will include discussions related to Casual and Staffing language. Overall, discussions remain collaborative and forward-looking, with sustained momentum.

Both bargaining committees continue to engage in exploring solutions that balance the priorities identified by SUN with the operational requirements of the provincial health authority. While complex matters remain to be addressed, both parties recognize the importance of continued dialogue in supporting a sustainable, responsive, and effective healthcare system.

This round of bargaining represents an important opportunity for the Employer and the Union to address system-level changes that support patient care. These discussions include reducing barriers created by former health region boundaries, supporting the development of more full-time nursing positions, advancing provincial programs, and leveraging technology to improve access to care.

As healthcare delivery continues to evolve through innovation and expanded opportunities to provide care closer to home, both parties acknowledge the importance of maintaining safe, supportive work environments and fostering an engaged nursing workforce in achieving these shared objectives.

Negotiations are scheduled to resume on February 10, 11, and 12, 2026.
