SAHO/SUN Bargaining Update – September 23–25, 2025

The SAHO Bargaining Committee met with the Saskatchewan Union of Nurses (SUN) on September 23, 24, and 25, 2025.

During this session, the committees engaged in focused and constructive discussions on proposals that support organizational change and create clear processes to help retain nurses when health services are reorganized to meet the needs of patients, clients, and residents. Both committees worked collaboratively, asking key questions, sharing feedback, and exploring solutions that balance the needs of SUN members with the priorities of the health system.

Progress was made on several items, including sign-off on additional definitions and housekeeping provisions. The parties also advanced their work on complex articles related to mergers, transfers, closures, technological change, and organizational change. These conversations are critical to ensuring consistency, clarity, and stability for nurses while enabling flexibility to deliver high-quality, patient-focused care across Saskatchewan.

This round of bargaining represents more than just the renewal of a collective agreement. It is an opportunity for both the Employer and the Union to negotiate system changes that enhance patient care by breaking down barriers created by former health region boundaries, supporting the creation of more full-time nursing positions, advancing provincial programs, and leveraging new technologies to increase access for patients.

Looking ahead, the modernization of healthcare delivery—including the use of technology and the growing ability to provide care closer to home—remains a key focus. Success in achieving these system goals depends on safe, supportive nursing environments and an engaged workforce.

The bargaining committees look forward to continuing productive discussions when negotiations resume on October 21, 22, and 23, 2025.
