SAHO/SUN Bargaining Update - May 20, 21 & 22 2026

The SAHO Bargaining Committee met with the Saskatchewan Union of Nurses (SUN) on May 20, 21 and 22, 2026.

This was a positive and productive bargaining session, with both parties actively engaged in advancing discussions on several significant issues.

Substantive dialogue took place on a broad range of articles, including Article 12 – Standby; Articles 56 through 59 – Nursing Practice and Committee Structures; Article 42 – Staff Development; Article 35 – Recognition of Previous Experience; Article 32 – Classification; Article 7 – Hours of Work; and Article 6 – Union Recognition and Security. SAHO also introduced a proposal for a new Letter of Understanding related to the Recruitment and Retention of Indigenous Employees.

While significant work remains, this session provided meaningful forward momentum. SAHO withdrew three proposals to help focus negotiations and advance discussions on the complex issues that remain under consideration.

This round of bargaining continues to provide an opportunity to examine and update provisions to better reflect the realities of today's healthcare environment. Discussions have included matters aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery across Saskatchewan, such as greater provincial alignment, expanded full-time employment opportunities, enhanced support for provincial programs, and the strategic use of technology to improve access to care.

The constructive and focused dialogue at this session positions the parties well for continued progress. SAHO's Bargaining Committee remains committed to collaborative bargaining and to achieving outcomes that support employees while ensuring the continued delivery of safe, high-quality patient care across the province.

Negotiations are scheduled to resume on June 2, 3, 4 and 5, 2026.
