SAHO/SUN Bargaining Update June 27, 2025
The SAHO Bargaining Committee met with the Saskatchewan Union of Nurses (SUN) on June 17, 18 and 19, 2025.
The parties continued to engage in focused, thoughtful discussions; some of which was spent on proposals which support organizational change and provide clear processes aimed at retention of nurses when reorganizing health services to meet the needs of patients, clients and residents. These discussions require both parties to thoroughly consider each other’s concerns and work collaboratively to find solutions. It is in that spirit that the parties reached agreement on some additional issues during this session.
This round of collective bargaining is not just a renewal of the collective agreement but also an opportunity for the employers and the union to negotiate system changes to enhance patient care without the former artificial health region boundaries that, at times, restricted patient-focused delivery of care, deterred the creation of fulltime positions, hindered the development of provincial programs and limited the use of emerging technologies to increase accessibility for patients. These are the critical conversations that both parties have committed to during this round of bargaining. We look forward to continuing these productive discussions.
Modernization of healthcare delivery, use of technology and the increased desire to have patient needs met in their home communities are some of the system goals. Success for any of these goals requires safe, supportive nursing environments and an engaged workforce.
The next meeting dates are scheduled for September 3, 4 and 5, 2025.
