SGEU Bargaining Update
August 11, 2026
SAHO and SGEU met August 6 and 7, 2026. SAHO tabled a response to SGEU’s July 21st package and engaged in subsequent discussions seeking clarity of SGEU’s vision for implementation of various proposals.
SAHO’s package acknowledged several articles where the parties are “agreed in principle”, advanced negotiations on monetary proposals (including northern retention allowances, premiums, and shift differentials) and refined movement of work and workers proposals based on feedback from SGEU. During the session, SAHO responded to questions about the movement of workers and sharing of work across union jurisdictional territories for agency-based positions (eg Home Care workers, Public Health workers)service-based positions, (eg. maintenance workers, trades such as electricians) and occasional assignments, all of which will serve to enhance both patient care and employee opportunity.
SAHO’s proposals are not intended to move employees involuntarily, at-will, across the province nor grant the employer the ability to move work or workers to anywhere in the province at their discretion. These proposals will maintain or reduce the current distances employees are required to travel and reduce barriers for patients and employees. These proposals will ensure greater flexibility for effective and timely patient care, address workload issues for employees, as well as enhance opportunities for recruitment, retention, and career development, particularly in areas near the borders of the Health Provider Union (HPU) territories.
SAHO recognizes SGEU’s commitment to productive, solution focused negotiations. Package exchanges among SAHO and SGEU continue to narrow the remaining proposals and advance negotiations toward conclusion. The next bargaining session is scheduled for August 20 and 21, 2026.
