SAHO/HEALTH PROVIDER UNION (HPU)

SGEU Bargaining Update

September 25, 2026

Union: SGEU

Bargaining Dates: August 20 and 21, September 1, 2 and 3, September 17 and 18, 2026

Upcoming Bargaining Dates: September 25, 26, 27, 2026

SAHO appreciates SGEU’s commitment to the bargaining process. Exchanging proposals and working collaboratively at the table remains the best way to reach an agreement that serves employees, employers, and—most importantly—the patients and clients across the province.

Compensation

In response to SGEU’s willingness to engage in meaningful and open discussions on SAHO’s proposals, SAHO enhanced its total compensation offer, proposing increases to:

  • Northern Retention Payments
  • Vehicle Allowance
  • Responsibility Pay
  • Shift Differential
  • Weekend Premium
  • Maternal/Parental/Adoption Supplemental Employment Benefit
  • Family Leave Improvement
  • Preceptorship Pay
  • Professional Fees

Proposed increases for all pay bands 1 to 12, representing an average increase of 8.5% have been offered over and above the 12% general wage increase that has been previously offered.

Targeted adjustments have also been proposed for seventeen (17) more classifications in pay bands 13 to 23 over and above the 12% general wage increase. This would bring the total number of classifications receiving market adjustments to (17) with an average wage increase of 21.15% inclusive of the 12% general wage increase that is already on the table.

Combined, all employees in pay bands 1 to 12 and those in the 17 classifications being offered market adjustments will see an increase of over 20% on average over the term of the five-year agreement.

This total compensation package represents a significant investment in Saskatchewan’s health care workforce and will ensure Saskatchewan remains competitive with the other western Canadian provinces.

Workforce Flexibility

SAHO’s proposal package provides solutions to workload issues, interim vacancies, vacation and leave requests, and ensures facilities stay open and patients receive timely care in their communities. Proposals allow for greater flexibility to address patient and health system needs by permitting employees to perform their regular work duties, deliver care in the most efficient and effective manner and share workloads across Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) teams.

Travel

Travel that occurs will be within the hours of the workday/shift with travel expenses reimbursed. Any travel for incumbent employees that falls outside of the regular distances will be done on a voluntary basis.

Employment Opportunities

Opportunities for recruitment, retention, career development, and full-time employment, particularly in areas near the borders of SGEU territory, will be enhanced. All of this is achievable without interfering with or infringing on the rights of SGEU or its members.

During these sessions, SAHO and SGEU engaged in solution focused discussions to address concerns in key areas. Negotiations have progressed and many articles have been agreed to in principle. SAHO appreciated the open, constructive and solution focused dialogue. Topics included employees performing work within other geographical health provider union (HPU) boundaries and sharing work across Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) teams.

SAHO is encouraged that SGEU has demonstrated a willingness to continue to engage in meaningful discussions regarding possible solutions to the challenges that historic union boundaries create in a single provincial health authority. By working together, the parties have an opportunity to identify approaches that better support patient care and service delivery to meet operational needs across Saskatchewan while continuing to respect the autonomy and distinct representation rights of each individual health provider union.
