SAHO SUN Agreement Ratified by Health Employers

A four-year collective agreement between the Saskatchewan Association of Health Organizations Inc. (SAHO) and the Saskatchewan Union of Nurses (SUN) has been ratified by provincial health employers.

Almost 10,000 SUN members representing registered nurses, registered psychiatric nurses and registered nurse/nurse practitioners previously ratified the agreement on March 23, 2016. The agreement is effective April 1, 2014 to March 31, 2018. Terms include:

          2014      $800 lump sum payment

          2015      $800 lump sum payment

          2016      1.5% increase

          2017      1.5% increase

The collective agreement now clarifies the context in which registered nurses can call in additional staff in accordance with the employer’s process and criteria. In addition, productive negotiations led to better processes to reduce employee turnover, better manage the workforce and ensure patient safety.

“Our nurses have always been valued as contributors to the patient care team, and this agreement more clearly defines the process when additional staff is required,” said Doug Forseth, CEO.

The Saskatchewan Association of Health Organizations Inc. (SAHO) is a non-profit, non-government association responsible for providing collective bargaining, labour relations and classification/job evaluation services to health regions, the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency and affiliated agencies throughout the province.
